Susan Stewart Hoechner, Owner of Barbara Stewart Interiors, Recognized as Home Accents Today Lean In & Lift Up Successful Woman

Becoming the first retailer honored during the inaugural event

LAS VEGAS, NV (August 6, 2019) — Barbara Stewart Interiors shared the spotlight with corporate CEOs, influential interior designers and successful sales representatives in Las Vegas, Nevada last week as owner Susan Stewart Hoechner was named a Home Accents Today Lean In & Lift Up Successful Woman.

The distinction is awarded to female business leaders and executives in the interior design industry who attribute their success to their mentors, and who continue to serve the industry by mentoring others. Susan was the sole retailer recognized among approximately 40 other women, becoming the first retailer honored during the inaugural event.

“I am truly humbled by the honor, and it’s something I will cherish for the rest of my life,” said Hoechner. “Mother [Barbara Stewart] was my greatest mentor, and she taught me to always treat each customer like a close friend. And that’s exactly what I try to do to this day.”

Hoechner had the opportunity to speak about her mother while presenting during a panel at the Las Vegas Market. She shared stories about growing up in a house that served as a hub of what would become the premiere interior design company in Downtown Bowling Green, Kentucky.

“Growing up, there was no such thing as ‘sitting around.’” Hoechner said. “If we weren’t doing homework or studying, mother gave us tasks to complete. She instilled in me a work ethic that’s admittedly hard to break away from!”

Hoechner was selected as a Lean In & Lift Up Successful woman after Home Accents Today learned about Barbara Stewart, her mentor, who has left a legacy in the city of Bowling Green. Barbara Stewart Interiors has become a staple to the historic downtown, and Stewart remained an active advocate for downtown development and entrepreneurship until her passing in 2016 at the age of 94.

Stewart began the company out of her tiny brown house on 13th street in Bowling Green 67 years ago. Since then, the business has grown to include a brick-and-mortar retail store on The Square, as well as a full-service design studio next door. The company also specializes in custom framing, invitations, engraving and bridal registry.
